“Is this the body of the culprit?” Sister Claire asked Sheriff Anderson, as the Coroner examined the body found on the outskirts near the main road to their town of Tranquil Knoll.
While one of their town’s gods was associated with Death, the small morgue under the police station affected her senses in a way that caused her worry. The little gods weren’t a malevolent folk, but areas where their energy amassed needed ‘airing’ every now and then.
Once the birthing ceremony occurred and passed uneventfully, she would see that one of her brothers of the Faith familiar with the little gods likely to visit here performed a cleansing.
Granted, given the unique nature of their little morgue it should’ve been happening regularly anyway, since the Town rented the clean room to Hunters and to teaching those with an interested in anatomical science, or those with darker urges.
Alas, she was distracting herself from the issue at hand.
I mean honestly, who would’ve thought a mad man would come meandering through the town during the summoning and wreck so much of the town?
“We haven’t had a chance to check security tapes of the newer building in town, but some of the wounds the body has don’t match up with how the John Doe died. So unless we stumble upon someone else, or some rabid animals came through and somehow missed the Ceremony completely, we are proceeding on the assumption that this body is our culprit.” Sheriff Anderson sighed.
Sister Claire understood how the Sheriff was feeling. They were both young by the Faith’s standards, barely in their 30s, and it had been quite a long time since the last Summoning.
She had accepted the ritual, since she was born and raised in the town, but Sheriff Anderson had escaped the city life in favour of small town life. And while Tranquil Knoll was under the control of a very unique religion, it was apparent the religion caused no harm and was very peacable.
It was Sister Claire’s belief that once the result of the Birthing ceremony grew old enough to communicate, the handsome Sheriff would finally join the Faith.
She mentally brushed the daydream away, to savour for a time when it was appropriate.
They were both unused to the idea that Religions could actual interact with their respective gods, but beyond the fact that despite being a relatively obscure town, Tranquil Knoll was still quite vibrant and lively, which shouldn’t happen given their lack of reliance of outside materials.
And as one of the head current Head Priestesses of the Faith, who had directly been involved in the Summoning, Sister Claire’s faith was definitely strong, having witnessed her Gods being born anew.
